Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair took place in Scoil Bhríde from Monday the 29th of February until Wednesday the 2nd of March. It was fantastic to see so many children at the book fair with their parents. We thank you all so much for participating in our book fair as this has resulted in our school receiving a much needed supply of books for our library from Scholastic. We would also like to say a special word of thanks to the members of the Parents’ Association who helped out with the book fair, it would not have been possible to run it without the kind generosity of their time and skills.

Science Week

Science week in Scoil Bhride ran from the 22-26 February. We were delighted to welcome teachers and students from St. Mary’s Secondary School and Oaklands Community College to our school. They demonstrated a range of experiments for our pupils and encouraged every class to get involved. We concluded Science week with our own Science Exhibition in the hall. This gave parents an opportunity to witness some of the experiments being carried out in their child’s class on a weekly basis. We wish to thank all the parents who attended the exhibition.

Green-Schools – ‘Low Energy Day’

On Friday 12th of February we held a ‘Low Energy Day’ as part of our Green-School programme. At the start of the day we took an ESB meter reading and did the same at the end of the day. During the day we did not use any equipment that uses electricity such as interactive whiteboards and computers. We also tried not to turn on any lights and kept the heat in the classrooms to a minimum. We found that we significantly reduced the amount of energy we used on a normal school day – only 1.8 Kwh! The Green Committee helped organise an active day including feeding birds, visiting classrooms, making wind turbines and energy quizzes. Second classes displayed energy projects in the hall for parents in the evening time.
